Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the US. She's been an editor since the year 1995. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in popular media. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in popular culture, she works to highlight issues related to the targeted harassment of women and other marginalized classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young age. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level, she created the Feminist Frequency website. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games was targeted by the internet campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. Instead, it strengthened her commitment as a feminist and media critic. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won several awards and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
