Heidi Watney, born May 19 1981 Heidi Watney, born May 19, 1981, is an American sportscaster and reporter on Apple TV+. A graduate of the University of San Diego, her previous experience in sportscasting includes assignments at MLB Network, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet in Los Angeles, and two stations located in Fresno. Watney was a Clovis West High School student in Fresno. She participated in gymnastics in hurdles, diving, and gymnastics. She was an National Merit Scholar, and she attended the University of San Diego as an academic scholarship. She was awarded an honors degree in 2003. [2] Watney has competed in the Miss California USA pageant, in which she was the initial runner-up in 2002. Watney is the cousin of golf professional Nick Watney. [7] Author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's surname for the character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name during the Red Sox game broadcast. Watney was in the music video for Dropkick Murphys' "Going Out in Style" single.
